Behind the Glass was founded in 1987 and started as a cafe downstairs and a boutique upstairs. We had the most fabulous and simple teacakes on the menu and we decided it was about time we shared the recipe!
1 cup butter (softened)
2 cups sugar
2 tablespoons buttermilk
5 cups all purpose flour
1 teaspoon baking soda
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
-Preheat oven to 350 -Sift flour & baking sofa together -Cream butter & sugar together in a large mixing bowl -Add eggs one at a time, mix well after each -Add buttermilk & vanilla extract -Add dry ingredients gradually -Mix till combined, dough should be sticky -Turn out onto a lightly floured surface -Roll out to quarter inch thickness, sprinkling flour is necessary
-Cut dough with a round cookie cutter
-Put on cookie sheet and sprinkle with sugar before baking
-Bake for 9 to 11 minutes until the bottoms are golden brown
